dell inspiron 8600i + Xubuntu Feisty Herd 5 and the same problem... I cannot get 1680x1050 without manual configuration (which means a lot of work)... Actually, I don't understand; ubuntu, (k)ubuntu and many other distro work very well... just Xubuntu doesn't want to work easy!
