I also tried the work around (formatting the partitions myself etc) but
run into the same problem when trying to reboot into the newly installed
system, the raid partitions do not exist in /dev/mapper/ and thus cannot
be mounted.

Usually I use software RAID but found that fakeraid gives me better
performance with RAID1, so I'll wait until this is fixed, but I just
wanted to make it clear that it is not just a problem with the installer
failing to format.
