Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity
When you choose manual partitioning for installing Ubuntu and then set up an existing partition to be used as the root file system (/) without being formatted, Ubiquity warns you that any "system folders such as /etc" will be removed. Unfortunately, apart from the /etc example, it doesn't tell which folders exactly it will remove. (Use case: John Doe wants to overwrite his botched 9.04 installation with a fresh 10.04 install. So of course he's happy with /etc or /usr being overwritten, but since he likes to have a one-partition setup with / and /home on the same partition, he wants /home to be preserved and then used in the newly installed system. But because of the unclear wording in the abovementioned warning message he is unsure about the safety of his data, changes VT and renames his /home folder to /oldhome before going forward.) ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ambiguous wording for message about using an unformatted partition as the root file system https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/580274 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
