Saying you don't need a tooltip because it is a menu is like saying you shouldn't get a speeding ticket because you were wearing a clown outfit while going 90mph in a school zone (actually a really good analogy)
Look, I see now the fundamental issue is this nonsense with making these things menus. Why? They are apps. Why are you revinventing the wheel? Boredom? Not enough to do? These changes add nothing. Please see (and follow) the HIG: Right click => menu Left click => show/hide main app Double click => default action (like play/pause for example) Tooltips. This is nuts.
