Hello Daniel,

Many thanks for following up.

I tried repeating the experiment using Debian's 1.5.0.3 package on another host
a while ago and found that instead of crashing with SIG25 when the pack
file-size reaches 2GB, it instead appears to instantly finish processing and
terminate.

However, the pack-file has not been constructed and installed correctly; if I
re-run git-pack-objects the process repeats again. (Normally, it should notice
that the available pack file is up to date and quickly terminate.)

The following mailing list entry appears to acknowledge that pack files >=2GB
in
size will fail:

http://marc.info/?l=git&m=117347628506244&w=2

From reading the thread, removing this limit will require a non-backwards
compatible change to the pack file format.

---

So, I can try to repeat the problem on my current Feisty installation and
upload
an updated crash report if you still think that's necessary. (The repacking
operation takes a fair amount of time to execute, so it may take me a little
while..)

However, given the above, you might prefer to defer until upstream developers
have readied a fix.

Cheers,
David
