I have the same problem on my HP 6730b. when choosing "suspend", I have a dark screen and disk activity (frontal led is not blinking to say that the computer is in suspend mode). Moving the mouse make it shows a window to enter the password. No external hard drives are connected nor SD cards. I run with kernel 2.6.32-22-generic
