Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-vm-builder
ubuntu-vm-builder builds images with no post-MBR gap. The first partition starts at offset 512 bytes, i.e. on sector 1. This is bad practice; better to start on the first cylinder (as per a default Ubuntu install) and leave most of cylinder 0 free. Otherwise, it is not possible to install a boot loader such as grub without blocklists, and grub says: grub-setup: warn: This msdos-style partition label has no post-MBR gap; embedding won't be possible! grub-setup: warn: Embedding is not possible. GRUB can only be installed in this setup by using blocklists. However, blocklists are UNRELIABLE and its use is discouraged. ** Affects: ubuntu-vm-builder (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ubuntu-vm-builder builds images with no post-MBR gap https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
