I can confirm this problem; just upgraded from Karmic to Lucid, and all
Japanese fonts in the desktop, menus and applications (my
LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8) looked "strange", "Mincho"-like.

Fixed the problem via (there's a typo in the original description, it's 
"-wqy-", not "-qwy-":
    sudo apt-get remove ttf-wqy-zenhei
