Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity-themes

The new placement of the close button in Lucid is bad for usability.

The button should extend to the corner of the screen when the window is
maximised, because when pushing the mouse in that direction the cursor
stops on the screen edges, making it much easier to click the corner
than a button slightly inset. Currently only Human and DarkRoom's close
button covers the corner pixel.

Also, since the button is on the left, vertical panels on the left edge
push the close button away from the corner of the screen, making it
harder to use. Moving vertical panels to the right is not a valid
solution, since there are frequently vertical scrollbars on the right
screen edge. Pushing the scrollbar off the screen edge decreases its
usability. All themes have the close button on the left.

I did not have this issue before upgrading to Lucid.

In summary, the close button should be on the same side of the screen as
vertical scrollbars, and should cover the corner pixel in a maximised
window.
