I give up, I've spent 20 or more hours across a dozen or more installs with 4 different hard drives in this server, and no version of Ubuntu from 9.10 to 10.04 Alpha 2 to now has been able to get RAID working on my server. I've been using various versions of Linux for more than 10 years, though rarely install the OS, so I'm not brand new to this and I've got an 8.10 server sitting next to this one that installed with RAID1 just fine over a year ago.
