Confirmed,
but this old trick seems to work for my Ubuntu Lynx 10.04. Also works 
for Karmic 9.10, No need to re-insert the module manually every time. 
This may not work in all machines?

Add tree lines to /etc/rc.local

sudo gedit /etc/rc.local
modprobe -vr dvb_bt8xx
sleep 10
modprobe -v dvb_bt8xx
