@Peter Mount: murrine is a theme engine, it's likely the latter part of your error messages are caused by having changed your GNOME theme. You could try System > Preferences > Appearance to change your GNOME theme back to the original (I think it was "Ambiance" - I now have so many themes installed that I've forgotten... LOL! ). After that, you could check to see if you still get the "murrine" error messages.
