Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox
I was unable to open any PDF document on a website operated by a large financial institution. Installing the Adobe reader plugin didn't solve the problem, which was frustrating. After digging a bit, I noticed that the problem was caused by the website's JavaScript, which looks for a plugin with a name matching "Adobe Acrobat". However, ~/.mozilla/firefox/[profile]/pluginreg.dat lists the plugin as "Adobe Reader", so there is no match. Here's the workaround: with Firefox closed, manually edit pluginreg.dat and insert the word "Acrobat" between "Adobe" and "Reader". Ideally, Firefox's pluginreg.dat would identify the Adobe reader plugin as "Adobe Acrobat Reader" from the get-go. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Can't open PDF files on some web pages (workaround provided) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574723 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
