Public bug reported:

I know this bug description is somewhat faint. I'll list all symptoms
that may or may not be related to my problem, please tell me how I can
provide you with further informations on what the problem could be - or
if a symptom is not caused by my root problem, that is:

3D-Accelleration of my NVidia card doesn't seem to work properly.

I have a Geforce 6600, and ever since I've used the "hardware driver"
offered by Ubuntu, I have this problem. Currently I'm using Lucid. I've
never used anything else than the Gnome Desktop

Symptoms are:
1) Applications like the screensaver "Hyperspace", "Stellarium" or "Google
Earth" rarely have frame rates that I can work with. Sometimes everything is
ok, but mostly they run at less than 0.5 fps
2) Some Applications - so far Gimp and pgAdmin3 - sometimes crash the desktop
effects. That is, exiting Gimp or use of pgAdmin disables "desktop effects"
(like the wobbling windows) and ALL programs get relocated to the first virtual
desktop

Any help or hint is highly appreciated, thanks in advance :-)
