Thanks, Omer. I agree - this is not a duplicate of 495524.

This issue appears to occur only with one account, so I can only
reproduce it for that account. However, assuming that:

1. Remove the account 
2. Recreate the account
3. Check replies
4. Replies are blank; error above is reproduced

My other Twitter account retrieves everything without issue, and this
account retrieves everything else successfully (public messages, Direct
Messages, and sent Messages). Only Replies trigger this error.

Is there a sequence for fully removing the Couch Database? The
instructions I had found left all cached messages in place. I'd like to
try completely removing user data for Gwibber and starting from scratch
to see if I can reproduce the problem. (It might be worth adding that
sequence to the FAQ/wiki, unless I missed it.)
