probably gonna have to clean up some stuff then, not sure what exactly caused the problem to begin with, but reinstalling graphics drivers/reconfigure, look through forums? make sure you have all the newest packages apt-get dist-upgrade, recovery mode check for broken packages. This would be one of those situations i'm glad I have a home partition. :/
