I've had this problem for ages (3+ years) with Thunderbird. I'm now in triage mode as I've just installed Lucid and I've been tracking down lots of little annoyances.
For the record, Thunderbird 3 has the same issue. I'll point out that it's not *just* the little progress bar, but /any/ progress bar that Thunderbird presents. $ uname -a Linux hani 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:09:38 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux $ lspci | grep -i vga 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G86 [GeForce 8400M GS] (rev a1) $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available.
