Public bug reported:

This looks somewhat similar to Bug #445852 but in my case this is SONY
DVD RW DRU-190A, 1.65, max UDMA/66

I started see the problems immediately after upgrading from
Karmic->Lucid RC and still see the problem today after apt-get update
;apt-get upgrade

My PC has mostly SATA devices: 2 HDDs and one BD-burner. There is ATAPI
DVD RW as well and all the problems are for this device only.

The same device worked fine on Karmic and works fine under Windows.

I see the problem while trying to burn DVDs (tried several times and
every time after completing 30-70% the device is stuck).

It is true that Lucid has a newer versions of 'wodim' and libatasmart (compared
to Karmic) - but I can burn and read DVDs normally on another device which is
SATA

[ 2.930390] ata8: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 300)
[ 2.950210] ata8.00: ATAPI: PIONEER BD-RW BDR-203, 1.10, max UDMA/100
[ 2.990242] ata8.00: configured for UDMA/100
[ 2.997735] scsi 7:0:0:0: CD-ROM PIONEER BD-RW BDR-203 1.10
PQ: 0 ANSI: 5

To summarize: ATAPI DVD-RW fails consistently on writes (and sometimes
on reads as well), SATA BD-RW works fine. Both devices worked fine on
Karmic.
