Forget about comment #2, the -dbgsym package seems to be broken and does not 
yield a better bug report. But o my surprise today I could not start gthumb 
anymore, but got the same problem as you.
I tracked the problem down: gthumb crashes because it can't read the comments 
generated by a newer version of gthumb (more specifically, it tries to read the 
"format" tag of the comment xml file, but gthumb 2.11.x uses a "version" tag 
instead). If you don't mind losing comments you might have attached to the 
pictures, please rename (or remove) the .comment folder in the respective 
picture folder, this fixed the problem for me. Please report whether this also 
works for you.
