As noted, at least on this motherboard, my Marvell Technology Group Ltd.
88E8001 Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 13)
does not function, and has not since about 7.10 if I recall correctly. I
recently tested it again with Linux ring 2.6.31-15-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Tue
Nov 10 14:53:52 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux kernel and it still fails to
function. However, it has not issued diagnostics in some time. In fact, it
responds positively to all diagnostics, ethtool reports properly about it, and
no errors appear on boot, but it simply is not able to transmit (I think). I
recently plugged it into a new gigE switch, no improvement. I bought a PCI
gigE card and use that in the system instead, that card works fine, so I no
longer fuss about the onboard ether.

I was planning next week to install Lucid and a new kernel.
