@Rick Bryce: This is not a forum for support requests, but a tracker to fix defects in the software that makes up Ubuntu. The fact that dpkg- reconfigure no longer writes out an xorg.conf is not a defect. In the vast majority of cases X can better detect the appropriate configuration than what we had in the reconfigure hooks.
