** Description changed: Just at random the computer will either: 1) Loose the correct resolution: the monitor will read "out of sync" and I'll have to cycle through the resolutions with ctrl+alt+<+> 2) Garbled blocky colors: the screen will display a weird blocky color pattern, and usually the keyboard doesn't respond, and the system is totally locked up. 3) Abruptly lockup: randomly the computer will lockup and the keyboard will be unresponsive, but the screen looks ok, and the mouse will still move. This is a very serious error because the computer is almost completely useless because at random it will lockup and I'll have to do a hard- reboot. - I suspect it is with the Xorg drivers for the ATI card. Or with the DRI - or GLX. I've shhd into the computer while it was missbehaving and I - noticed that Xorg was taking 98%+ of cpu time. + I suspect it is with the Xorg drivers for the ATI card, or with DRI or + GLX. I've sshd into the computer while it was missbehaving and I noticed + that Xorg was taking 98%+ of cpu time. But sumtimes the computer's _too_ + locked up to respond to a ssh login, and doesn't seem to even write any + error messages to dmesg or Xorg.0.log (except for the ones listed + below). I have a ATI Radeon 9250 PCI (256MB video ram), and I'm using the open- source "ati" drivers. Direct rendering is working. I'm also using - Kubuntu 7.04 and have currently updated.
