Sorry folks, I was looking at an upstream kernel which provides the command line option I talked about.
I am working on building a kernel to test, but if you are so inclined, you can try the attached patch. It applies to the latest Lucid kernel. Apply the patch, rebuild your kernel, and try the command line parameter again. Otherwise, you can wait while I try and build a test kernel.
