Well, just to double-check that plymouth really got into your initramfs,
you can do:

zcat /boot/initrd.img-$(uname -r) | cpio -t | grep plymouth

You can also boot with the option
'plymouth:debug=file:/var/log/plymouth.log' and post the resulting file.
