As of today, the Broadcom STA driver works with my broadcom wifi - but
NetworkManager icon still does not appear.

I have to use root terminal to start NetworkManager, the error message
tells me that NetworkManager is already running and gives the PID of
that task.

Then I have to kill it using #kill pid number, and NetworkManager
respawns and the icon then appears in the icon tray at the upper left of
the screen.
