I no longer use ubuntu as the computer I was using it on died. however, i vaguely recall running a later version of ubuntu from a live CD and not noticing any trouble with the trash (although i don't use trash much from a live cd)...so ultimately i can't say, but no one else has complained for a year...so that's a good sign.
