I think you are asking me to re-install my whole system from scratch, which is a big effort! Or maybe just Gnome (not sure how to do that separately...) I'm willing to re-install if necessary, but first want to be sure that you've checked for yourself and don't immediately see the problem. Specifically, can you use System->Prefs->Appearance to put window buttons back on the left side of window headers? (If you can't, then you have confirmed the bug. If you can, please post what exactly you did and I'll investigate further, including re- installing to verify first-time behavior).
