I see nearly the same except that my system does not show the "Starting up.." string, but only a cursor that keeps on blinking indefinitely.
I have seen this on my system ever since I installed lucid alpha 2 (My system is new and I didn't extensively use karmic because than I don't have wifi). Do you want me to make a new bug? Attach my system settings as well?
