I can reproduce this problem.
Using Mint 8 and Firefox 3.5.7, clicking anywhere on the login form
freezes the whole content of the page. This content is rendered in
Flash, so it's an issue with the Linux version of Adobe's Flash plugin.
It's closed-source though so there's little we can do about it.
In any case, it's flash related, nothing to do with the browser or your
graphics drivers.
