OK - I resolved the problem by uninstalling Ubuntu 9.10 and reinstalling
it -- although it was quite time-consuming to do so.

Hi, have you had some problem with the UbuntuOne Client or something
like that? because I don't see the relation between the client and the
software center, I add this as a Software center bug also, because it
said it was a UbuntuOne Client bug.
