I'm running the original config .. no upgrades on my hardware -- which means i'm using 256 MB RAM, it's almost unusable.
Here is how I got full 1024x768 in ubuntu 9.10 on my sony vaio pcg-r505 gl .. I added both of these boot options to the "linux" line of the boot config vga=792 i915.modeset=0 (I had to use grub-update (upate-grub?) to set these so they "stick" and are always present) And during boot, some text appears telling me that "vga=792" is deprecated, and to use this instead, on a line BEFORE the 'linux' line: set gfxpayload=1024x768x24,1024x768 but when I do that instead of "vga=792", it doesn't work, and reverts to 800x600, or x11 doesnt boot at all (i forgot which, and/or it depends on whether i keep "i915.modeset=0" in there or not) So I had to stick with the deprecated "vga=792", WITH i915.modeset=0 As for 3) ... well, I just modified my power management options to never suspend the machine, and never to "sleep" the machine. I think sometimes it still goes into a mode where I can't get the display to turn back on, I'm not sure what causes it. It's really a show-stopper though, when it does happen. Hopefully it won't happen anymore. Similar to Nik, when i press "Function" + F3, which on this piece of hardware means "mute", a little volume overlay comes up. If i then press the left arrow once to reduce the volume, it reduces the volume ALL the way (as if i was repeatedly tapping the left arrow) and then xorg process goes crazy muting and unmuting over and over, ad infinitum. It thinks I'm hitting mute over and over and over again. It was eating cpu. I had to just reset the machine. This is a problem. The wheel on the touch pad doesn't work for me in Ubuntu either, but it's not a huge issue because the right side of the touch pad is a scroll zone. Very nice. (Nik, the scroll wheel works for me in xp, even after reinstalling xp several times. I use the o.s. recovery cds that came with the laptop. Try googling "sony vaio jog dial" if you want to try getting it working in windows xp) -- Bugs on Sony vaio PCG - r505Gl https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/557412 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
