I am now running Ubuntu Lucid Lynx (2.6.32-19-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 1 10:39:41 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux) with the latest updates, and have no problems with my WIFI connection (BT is now running w/o problems). I updated to Lucid just because of this problem, and now it is running quite stable.
