I'm getting this error as well, when I try and move a clip from the library to the timeline, this is using the clip http://www.archive.org/download/Sita_Sings_the_Blues/Sita_Sings_the_Blues.ogv from http://www.archive.org/details/Sita_Sings_the_Blues.
As with other reporters, Apport appeared, but Pitivi was still running. This is on an old-ish machine, and trying to load the clip onto the timeline thrashes the CPU, with a load average ~2.3.
