** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati Laptop Asus K42jr-a1 using an ATI Radeon HD 5470 card. I have an ployview monitor plugged into the VGA port. When running windows there are no problems. When ubuntu is booting up and it's in text mode the information is displayed on both monitors. Once X starts the external monitor goes blank. I have tried various options in the display preferences such as different resolution, showing the same image on both or not etc and nothing works. Also there are no options to run the external monitor at a different resolution than the normal (small) screen.
