That would be great, if that won't break the consistence... but it does! Sadly all non native gtk application have problems with globalmenu... wx apps have an empty menu bar on their window while the actual menu moved to the panel, others like oo & firefox simply doesn't care about globalmenu, because they don't use any gtk widgets (only drawing functions), and there are other problems, like freezes with acroread.
