Today (3-Apr-2010) I tested Ubuntu 10.04 Daily build and it fails too. I tried to start LiveCD with erased "quitet splash" and with add "radeon.new_pll=0". System and Gnome started successfully, but then freeze. I switched to console (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and there is something like this:
