ok, here is what you asked for.  It is the "Main Menu" applet.  You can
not shut down if you use a source gnome-panel.  There is no "Quit"
option, no "shut down" option, or whatever else you want to call it.
You can only log out.  I don't know how to make it more simple than
that.  You can not shut down the computer using the Main Menu applet,
because there is no option or button or whatever it is that you call it,
to do so.   Hope that helps.
