This affects me also, but it happens even when I don't suspend. Every time I close the lid, the laptop screen goes blank. When I open the lid, the laptop stays blank for a while before showing me the login screen (i.e. X is restarted).
I have the power management settings set to "Blank screen when laptop lid is closed" on battery power.
