Nautilus can no longer access subdirectories and files in a directory
into which I cut-and-pasted a suspect IRS tax form (f1040sl.pdf), which
had been partially filled in. ls and other commands run in a term show
what looks like normality in the directory. Downloaded PDF's from sites
besides save-on-crafts display normally, but saved PDF's won't. Tried
reinstalling nautilus, but no joy. Nautilus not only won't open the
mentioned files and subdirectories, but will "lock up", freeze the
cursor and the disk will thrash "endlessly".

Firefox 3.0.18 appears to be built against Ubuntu 8.0.1, though the
running Ubuntu version is 8.0.4 -- problem?
