Binary package hint: fontconfig
This is Kubuntu Dapper Drake, however i carefully read the bugs database
and it seems it has not been reported yet.
In KDE's font chooser (log in as admin) Helvetica Condensed is not displayed.
When you manually browser
/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts it is properly installed and usable though.
In Openoffice this font is also missing.
This makes me thing it might be a fontconfig limitation.
Possible bug: Condensed is not a font familly on its own but kind of
speacial "shape" of a font family (don't know the proper wording, go ask
a typesetter). However as far as I can tell the Condensed information is
still in fonts.dir
