@Neil: As I clearly said, the patch is not for the Lucid branch. The patch does two things, a) fix use of xapian api, brings time from 25s to 0.6s b) somewhat faster filtering of packages not in view, brings time from 0.6s to 0.4s (all times on my computer, for the exmaple search i gave)
