Further investigation reveals that this also happens in Gnome.  It is as
if F1 is being pressed however, if Firefox is in the foreground it is
not Firefox's help that is launched.

Furthermore, it seems that press the lock button the first time elicts
the 'setkeycodes e058' kernel message.   Unlocking the touchpad is
recognized as a different keycode.
