Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cryptsetup
At boot, Lucid asks for a passphrase for the encrypted partition. I expect to get one dot per character of the passphrase I type. However, I don't get one "dot" per character. For some of the characters (different ones every boot or login attempt), there is no dot. If I repeat any characters that get missed (sometimes typing the same character two or three times) until I get exactly one dot per character of passphrase, the decryption succeeds. So, it acts as if some characters are captured by something else. This is a new keyboard, and I have not seen this problem in any other context -- I don't think it's hardware. It's very repeatable: it happens at every boot. Which characters get dropped changes from boot to boot. # lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu lucid (development branch) Release: 10.04 # apt-cache policy cryptsetup cryptsetup: Installed: 2:1.1.0~rc2-1ubuntu12 Candidate: 2:1.1.0~rc2-1ubuntu12 Version table: *** 2:1.1.0~rc2-1ubuntu12 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Thu Mar 25 20:48:53 2010 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" - Beta amd64 (20100317.1) Package: cryptsetup 2:1.1.0~rc2-1ubuntu12 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-17.26-generic 2.6.32.10+drm33.1 SourcePackage: cryptsetup Uname: Linux 2.6.32-17-generic x86_64 crypttab: sda9_crypt UUID=767c9938-88b6-4b5d-9cb0-b94bef2d300d none luks cryptoswap /dev/sda8 /dev/urandom swap cryptotmp /dev/sda7 /dev/urandom tmp ** Affects: cryptsetup (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug lucid -- Boot passphrase drops keystrokes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/548566 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
