Here's how I fixed the issue: I ran a script advised on the ubuntu help page which added the packages listed by the above answer. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu#Adding%20the%20Repositories. Then I downloaded the two packages through synaptic package manager and it worked perfect!!
