I suggest breaking in an "sh -x"ing the script that loads the modules, tacking "-v" onto any modprobe lines, and getting kernel messages captures using a serial console or something.
You'll need to identify, since there's a hard failure at a consistent location, where it's failing. Probably should move further discussion over to that bug before this one looses its specificity.
