Hi,

That's a wxwidgets 2.8 problem. 
When VLC 0.8.6 was released wxwidgets 2.8 was not out or has just been for a 
while, so VLC's interface has been coded with 2.6 in mind. ( to be honest i'm 
surprised it even compiled with 2.8)

So it's either a bug in wxwidgets, sth wrong in vlc code or a workaround
a 2.6 bug which is no longer needed and cause this placement problem.
