Of course, if you're not very precise with your pointing device (or visually impaired, or simply using a high-resolution screen) you're pretty much screwed with the new theme anyway since it is apparently a design decision (!) not to allow the buttons to scale (bug #532641, status "Won't fix") and, to add insult to injury, to not give any visual feedback as to which button has been pressed (bug #532551).
