I tried Beta 1 live cd but the result was essentially the same. I don't
think there was any broken pipes message, but I wasn't watching the
entire boot process. The rest, however, was the same: blank screen
with four blinking dots. Got to full screen terminal with <alt><f6>,
but it looked just the same as before: four identical columns of
illegibly blurred text with what looked like a command line with
blinking cursor at the bottom of each column. Terminals 2-5 were the
same as 6. Terminal 1 had additional text but the same four blurred
columns. Terminal 7 was the blank screen with four blinking dots. I
tried entering "startx" (which appeared simultaneously as I typed in
each of the four columns), but that just took me to a completely blank
screen, and I had to restart the computer with <alt><sysrq><b>.
