After running update-grub, is the 2.6.32-16 kernel listed in
/boot/grub/menu.lst?

If it's listed but doesn't show up at boot time, then I guess this is
related to the grub2 transition.  In that case, please install the grub-
pc package, which seems to have come uninstalled from your system at
some point in favor of grub1.

If it's not listed, then even if you don't remember editing menu.lst by
hand, it would appear to still be an instance of bug #470490.  You might
find that installing grub2 is *still* the easiest fix for this
problem...

After upgraded to 10.04 from previous though usplash was autoremoved as a 
package it STILL loads during boot time !!! Don want both plymouth and usplash 
together!
