Public bug reported: When using the stock Ambiance (or any other dark color) desktop theme in Lucid, the keyboard indicator applet lacks contrast. After adding my preferred dvorak keyboard, I looked in "Add to panel" as usual to install the keyboard indicator. I was rather upset to find that it was missing. Some time later, I happened to notice that there was an unused space on the panel. Very close inspection revealed that my keyboard indicator was already present -- printing in Black letters on a Dark Brown background. Switching to Clearlook works around the problem, but the applet needs to switch to a higher contrast foreground color.
